The title plays on the Christmas tradition of breaking wafers together, while exchanging wishes and gifts. Despite the lack of any specific, unifying theme,the common denominator for these artists is the medium: paper - a form both persistent and - in its widespread capacity for capturing passing impressions - fleeting. Paper often dictates our workflow, imposing time constraints. You can stop time on paper, exploiting its properties (lightness, delicacy, transience) to create the finished product. The works on display are mostly sketches, painters' notes, and preludes to the projects they spawned, but also constitute works of art, complete in their own right. Taken together, they form a set of curious observations and fleeting moments preserved on paper.
